How to make releases

Dear all,
I am very new so please sorry if I do ask a obvious question.
I would like to be able to make a snapshot of the whole software state (not
only separate files) and call it i.e. release 1.1.
Is it possible with subversion? If yes, than may be you could point me a
place in the docu (couldn't find)
