Versioning Append Only database files

Hi,

My company uses a proprietary database that consists of append only
files. Our system is heavily configured by "dictionaries" in this
database. I would like to version these files so that developers can
easily update their dictionaries in their working copies. The problem
of course is that every change to these files results in a conflict.
Has anyone else had a similar situation that they were able to work
around?
