lock failes on apache

Hi, I have installed subversion 1.2.0 over my fine working previous
installation to test the new locking feature. svn lock works fine on
local repositories. If I try to do the same to repositories on my
apache server I get an error 405 "Method Not Allowed". Can anybody help me?
