And for those with Windows, 7-zip will also provide excellent compression abilities (although I haven't tested this on any svn dumpfiles I know from experience that it can do a good job compressing large files). URL: http://www.7-zip.org/

rzip (http://rzip.samba.org) is *incredibly* effective at compressing
large dumpfiles if you need to transport them.

The gcc repo dumpfile goes from 55 gig to 350 meg.
