svn cleanup questions

svn cleanup seems slow as it cleans up the working directory I'm working
with. I have several thousand files but the process to clean locks still
seems quite slow.

questions:

1. what is the svn cleanup doing? just processing local working folder files
to clean locks?
2. is there a verbose option for svn cleanup? even if the process is slow it
would be nice to see what it was processing. any chance this will be
addressed in the future?
