There is no problem with it; any 1.x.y client can talk to any 1.a.b
server; both are backwards- and forwards- compatible. You will gain the
benefit of client-only features and improvements introduced in 1.2.0,
but you will not have any of the features which require new server-side
functionality, such as locking.
