You might want to take it up with the ASF infrastructure team as
well. I was bit worried when they decided to just dump each
project's CVS history onto the end of the repository, thereby messing
up datestamp ordering. My impression is that the general consensus
of ASF folk was, "eh, big deal, so we can't use date lookup." But it
sounds like some ASF committers may disagree. :-)

At a minimum, I would make sure the ASF infrastructure folks are
*prominently advertising* the fact that the revision datestamps are
scrambled. It sounds like they're not, if you were puzzled by it for
a long time.
