if you are able to successfully enumerate users and groups via 'getent
passwd' and 'getent groups' as well as you get correct output for 'id
userid' then all u need is configure Apache with Mod_auth_pam.

having said above, i had variety of errors on Gentoo with Mod_auth_pam
(http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86076) with some weird errors, and
moved our setup from winbind+mod_auth_pam to Kerberos auth against active
directory.
