subversion and locking

Hi All,

I have recently installed subversion on a debian system and seem to have
everything running quite happily for a multi-user environment. My
problem now lies in the fact that my team are not happy working in a
Copy-Modify-Merge environment as they do not feel it would work for
them. They require the repository to block anyone else from checking out
the file until it has been committed again.

This leaves me with a couple of options:
1/wait for version 1.2 to be released and _hope_ that it fulfills my
expectations as regards locking.

2/ Use VSS as our source control software (I have read a lot which says
that this is not the best way to go) and also it costs a bomb!

I would very much appreciate advice from anyone that has used and tested
the 1.2 version especially as regards the locking

Cheers

Simon
