Purge a Directory

Hi,
Is there any way to Purge a file or a directory from a repository ?
Meaning I want to remove the traces of a particular directory even from
past revisions. It is okay if those revisions are lost. But I want to
retain the revisions that pertain to other areas of the repos.
Any help is much appreciated
