make install error subversion-1.1.4

Hi, My 1st post here. I did check the archives. I assume most users
don't have a problem building svn. I'm using an apple powerbook with
osx 10.3.4 and darwinports. I had the listed version of svn installed
but that was on this pbook with lots of custom installed unix like
automake, autoconf, just about everything needed to compile-seperately
from mac osx. The problem with that is I had too many conflicts and
did a clean install-now the only additional package management is
darwinports.
Now, however I can't get subversion to build. I get through
./configure and make ok, but then:
gcc: /usr/local/apr/lib/libapr-0.0.9.6.dylib: Too many levels of symbolic links
libtool: install: error: relink `libaprutil-0.la' with the above
command before installing it
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make: *** [external-install] Error 1
Specifically how do I go about "relink `libaprutil-0.la' with the
above command before installing it" ?
Thanks for any help!
