It's a big debate, to which there's no answer. Many will argue that a
version control system has no business changing data behind a user's
back. The user commits one thing, and something different goes into
the repository... that's viewed as a huge sin by some folks, even if
it's a bit less convenient. :-)

So, even if there weren't a techincal/design limitation in Subversion
here, I suspect you might have a hard time convincing all the svn
developers that this is even a good idea philosophically. Many object
in principle.
