trouble building svn with BDB

From: Sheila A. Faulkner <saf_at_llnl.gov>

Hi -- I've tried building both the 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 versions of subversion
using the 4.2.52 release of the Berkeley DB. No matter what I do all I get
is

checking for Berkeley DB... not found
configure: error: Berkeley DB not found.
configure failed for apr-util

The configure line is

./configure --prefix=$home/local/local.linuxc/subversion-1.1.4 \
             --with-berkeley-db=$home/local/local.linuxc/db-4.2.52.NC

This all seems pretty straightforward but I must be doing something
wrong. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
