Handling translated documents

Dear community...

we have gathered here today to help me make life easier for my
translators. ;) I am maintaining a DocBook/XML document (the Postfix
tutorial at http://workaround.org) that is currently being translated
into different languages. However once the translators are done with
their job I have already done changes that need to be reflected in the
translated document again.

Currently the process is done rather manually. The translator makes a
note that e.g. his document was based on my revision 20. So he commits
his files and the revision becomes 21. I change a few lines and commit
revision 22. So the translator would need to reflect the changes between
revision 20 and revision 22. Of course he gets a diff file (and even
that means digging around the "svn log original.xml") but it's hard to
find the places in the document where he needs to put the translated
pieces.

I couldn't find any hint how this could be handled easilier with
Subversion. Branches probably do not work because the whole document
content (modulo some XML tags) is different. So 'diff'ing the two
documents is useless. Vendor tags?

Thanks for your hints... and please bear with me if I missed something
in the docs.

 Christoph
