When I have been in this situation, I have just had my local versions of
the files elsewhere in the depot, and then 'switch'ed these few files.
That may, any updates to these few files update my local copies, and the
rest update the real versions... [Each file knows where it lives in the
depot]

Of course, when you do a fresh check out, you need to remember to do a
couple of manual steps, but then you'll not need to do it again.
