I'm especially after an svnserve with ever-so-slightly finer-grained
permissions, as well as authentication from an external source. Apache simply
isn't an option for us. It's just too heavy-weight to install just for our
little-used VCS, not to mention that svnserve is pleasingly fast compared to it.
