For Word documents the only tool known to me is... Word itself. Its a
binay file and you need Word to merge two word files. But it's not as
horrible as it sounds :).

For text files you can choose from a whole range of merge/diff tools, I
prefer WinMerge as I need several regex'ed lines to be excluded...
