svn log very slow through http:// ?

Hi,

I am running subversion using the DAV module under
apache2. While for normal operations like check in/out
etc. where things are fine, I found that svn log is
very slow. I have tried to do it using tortoise from
another Window machine as well as just svn log
http://localhost/myrepos.

Is this a normal behaviour ? I do have basic
authentication through the apache PAM module.
