ah, ok - thanks for the help so far anyway :)

I think perhaps I could have installed apr from within the subversion/apr directory myself whilst faffing around trying to get it all to work. I spent the past 2 days or so getting it past the make point!

(I couldn't find anything anywhere suggesting --without-apxs, I only found that because I noticed it was trying to use apache2 libraries, and these were only used if apxs was run in the configure script... perhaps this should go in an FAQ somewhere? "How to set up a minimal subversion server without apache etc."?)

I might just upgrade apache and do the full installation and have done with it since that appears to be causing the problems, but I would have rather not have had to do that really.
