Well I'm more familiar with turning old computers into firewalls and
mail servers, but are you passively or actively cooling these
machines?

More recently I've been trying to silence older computers where
performance is not an issue.

At some point it just doesn't feel like it is worth maintaining old,
loud, and slow hardware that is sucking up power.
