remove unwanted directories from the repository

Hi all,

I know this goes against the principal, but i have some directorys
(and their files) in my repository that i really really don't want -
they are binary files and they are making my repository too big to
backup to a single cd, is there some way i can remove them from the
repository but still keep in tact all the other files (and their
history)?
