svn: No such string

We recently switched over to subversion, and everything was working
great until last week when commits and updates began to fail from
multiple machines in our office.

I then tried the following:

the-other-computer:~/svn/repository mark$ svnadmin recover spn
Repository lock acquired.
Please wait; recovering the repository may take some time...

Recovery completed.
The latest repos revision is 12.
the-other-computer:~/svn/repository mark$ svnadmin verify spn
* Verified revision 0.
svn: No such string 'il'

I've looked in the book and searched with google without much success.
Anyone have any ideas how to recover from this problem?

Installation Details:
OS X (10.3.7)
Subversion 1.1.2
Berkeley DB 4.3.27
Apache 2.0.52
swig 1.3.21

Thanks,
mark
