It is my understanding that PostgreSQL has only recently (past
year?) come out with a native Windows port, using MinGW, i.e.,
not Microsoft Visual C/C++. In the past, they only supported
Windows via Cygwin, i.e., not for the "masses", and not just for
building it but for running it. So on native Windows, PostgreSQL
is much less proven.
