svn commit => "Out of date" (on repository though, not local copy)

I run an "svn commit" and get the following error:

Deleting ssim/src/io
svn: Commit failed (details follow):
svn: Out of date: '/trunk/ssim/src/io' in transaction '3i'

It seems odd since the "Out of date" message applies to the repository,
and not the working copy.

Previously I had moved the directory in question and there was a failure
(but this was about 7 hours ago so I don't remember what failure). In
any case, the move appeared to work nonetheless, but now on commit I get
the above error.

How can I fix this?
