Distinguishing non-recursive checkouts in WC

Hi all,

Is it possible to tell the difference between a non-recursive checkout
and a recursive checkout of a folder which has no sub-folders? Is a flag
set anywhere in the WC? This may sound like a silly question, but if I
have done a non-recursive checkout it is likely that I will in future
want to do non-recursive updates as well, and at present I have to
remember which WCs are top level only.
