svn checkout slow on Solaris

Hi,

I have subversion 1.1.1 running on a Solaris 9 machine - served via an
apache dav point. Note that the subversion repository root is not on a NFS
share.

We have a repository of about 6000 files (approx 1.5Gb).

My problem is performing a checkout on the Solaris machine.

If I perform a:

svn checkout http://machine/svn/project

Then it will (probably) take about a week (literally) to checkout the files.
It does keep running. Just really slowly.

If I perform the same command on any other machine (Solaris or windows),
then the fetch is much faster - the entire repository in about 40 mins.

Where should I be looking to see why this is the case? Something to do with
local name lookups?

Ben.
