We evaluated Perforce (and other tools) against Subversion, (and yes
Perforce is very nice, it did make our short list), but when you see the
amount of support you get for a free tool and then you compare it to
yearly costs of other tools, it is hard to ignore the Return on
Investment...

One of the things we did was create an Excel spreadsheet of the features
of each tool, and we did a 5 year cost analysis of each tool looking at
start up costs (initial licenses, new servers etc...) *and* on going
maintenance for 40 developers... I suggest you try something similar.
