Congrats, you guys managed to re-derive the entire train of thought
that we developers went through when designing versioned-directory
semantics. :-)

There's a bit about mixed-rev directories, at the very end of chapter 2
in the book, worth a read. But yeah, this is definitely one of those
things that ought to be in a "newbie" warning box, on in the appendix
addressed to CVS users.
