What if someone accidentally checked in a file containing passwords?
What if someone added a 500MB file that shouldn't be there? Why should
I have to back that up for eternity?

Seriously, just because you don't need it and never make mistakes
doesn't mean other people don't. It's not hard to imagine a scenario
where this would be useful.
