building svn, apr/apr-util

Ok, this is probably a silly question, but when I am building
subversion, it does not seem to consider the default location
that apr and apr-util install themselves in among the places
it looks without being told.

In other words, if I build apr and apr-util passing no options
to ./configure, and just let them do the default thing, then
subversion has to be told where to look for them.

What is the place the subversion looks for them by default?
