Hi All,

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem turned out to be due to a linux
configuration error on my part. I'd never added a completely new entry to
the xinetd setup before, and I used the graphical YAST interface. I didn't
realize that the "valid service name" was the name listed in /etc/services,
so I put in "subversion" rather than "svn". Once that was corrected
everything works as advertised.

It's not just RTFM - it's RTFM VERY CLOSELY...
