    I would definitely qualify this by saying

"If you have binaries in your repos that are likely to need to be or to
accidentally be editted by two humans at nearly the same time..."

    There's plenty of situations (the vast majority, in my view) where
people's work habits or established workflow generally keeps people from
editting the same binary files at the same time.
