Using Subversion as Source Code and Mechanical CAD "Vault"

Does anyone tried to use Subversion as Mechanical CAD "Vault" (
Solidworks ,SolidEdge, ProE ...) ?

It will be beneficial to make branches and tags of Source Code and
Mechanical CAD combined.
