Browsing repository with Ankh -- Major issues.

I was using Ankh this morning with msdev 2003 and tried to browse the
repository and it hung msdev. This problem's been reported on their
userlist as well. Anyhow, i closed down everything and it all looked
kosher until I attempted a checkin and the repository never replied
back, appeared to have started the transaction and hung. I logged
into the linux box that hosts our SVN and attempted to use svnadmin to
check the status of the repository and it hung. Then I attempted an
svnadmin recover and that hung as well. Interestingly enough, running
svnadmin recover on the other repositories reported that this step was
necessary and they all worked fine.

So ... we solved this by restoring the repositories from our backups
but I was wondering if there were other steps we could have done to
bring the svn repository back to life?
