DAV very slow after upgrade from 1.0.3 to 1.1rc4

Hi,

We have been using 1.0.3 for some time and upgraded today to 1.1 rc4 so
we can use sym links. The DAV performance is so bad that it is
virtually unusable and we have rolled back to 1.0.3. Using svnserve is
also slower by about a factor of 2. Its running on a Red Hat 7.0
system, so the compilers a bit old. Apache 2.0.48., DB 4.1.25. Is there
anything obvious I should try?
