I think your broader suggestion of symbolic names is desirable by many, so
feel free to keep this going. I just do not agree with restricting the
repository to accomplish it.

Max gave the better example. What I was trying to show was that the true
target of the command could extend much deeper than one level beneath the
tag name. For the command line to be able to do this, you would have to
have the exact same structure everywhere. I find this too limiting.
