It's not just that. If you're doing operations that are limited to a
single tool's "epoch", then it's not a problem, but if you want to do
something like diff between r5567 in CVS, and r28 in SVN (or blame, or
any other similar operation), then things get more complex. Not a
show-stopper, but (in our case anyway) worth the hassle of conversion
for the convenience.
