I should have waited a little more before sending the last email.
‘./configure --enable-all-static’ was the answer for me. Now everything
works fine and I can finally build trunk/. However, there is still something
strange with libtool + Cygwin...

Well, at least there is some searchable information on this thread for
anyone looking for help on these problems.
