Well, of all the strange things...

After thinking about it for a bit, I decided to try a 'make distclean' with Subversion and rebuild everything. After the Subversion base install completed, I ran 'make swig-py' and 'make install-swig-py' - and lo! libsvn was created, and it was good.

I added the necessary symlinks to site-packages, and Trac has now installed with nary a problem.. Many thanks to Matthew Campbell and Michael Pilato for your good-humored help and patience!

In the spirit of Matthew's advice, it's time for a beer... ;)
