symlink versioning

I noted in the relnotes for 1.1 that symlink versioning is now
supported.

Is this a complete solution to issue 677 and thus also includes
support
for hardlinked files?

I have a need to support versioning of both symlinks and hardlinks for
system image support on both Solaris and Linux, and would prefer to
stop
using the cvs-oriented Makefile approach.
