Post-commit script mysteriously stopped working

Hi all,

Our subversion post-commit script mysteriously stopped working
recently after several months without a problem. Would welcome any
suggestions on how to fix it...

It's a Gentoo linux system running Subversion 1.0.4-r1 (from an emerge).

The post-commit hook is just running the standard commit-email.pl
script for several projects - e.g. one line is:
/var/svn/commit-email.pl "$REPOS" "$REV" -m '.*Snac.*' --from
svn@vpac.org snac-commitlog@vpac.org

I have tested running the commit-email.pl script manually and it works
- likewise for running the whole post-commit script manually, which
also works.

So it appears the problem is that subversion is no longer executing
the post-commit script when a commit is made. I confirmed this by
adding the following to the script:
echo "$REPOS" "$REV" >> /tmp/commits
then committing a change - the tmp/commits file wasn't updated.

The only causes we can think of so far are some emerge's that were
done between the last time we got a commit email and noticing it
stopped working:- 2 of which related to the smtp service, and the
perl-db module.

once again, any help much appreciated.

cheers,
Patrick.
