Arrgh! I'm a dope. I even specifically configured the trunk statically
to ensure that that wouldn't happen, but I had accidentally typed
"--disable-share" instead of "--disable-shared", resulting in a
shared-library version of svn (and therefore linking to the old .so's).

Building it properly (statically), the trunk works nicely for me now, too.
