Uppercase and lowercase in filenames

It was a problem which I hated in CVS, and it persists with

Did it ever happen to you when you have
'Index.html' in your repository and you need to rename it to
  'index.html' (all lowercase symbols) ?

What a pain it is, if you are using svn client from Windows
machine. It complains that it can't rename into the same file.
If I do renaming from *nix server, then other developers cannot
'svn update', because Subversion says it can't add 'index.html'
 (already exists).
Is there any workaround for this issue?
