True in theory, but "alpha" is a rather nebulous term these days!

It's not an issue of whether it's possible or easy. Suppose users had
other programs which accessed the repository directly, then those
programs would be broken after upgrading to 1.0. I'm not talking just
about Subversion, but RedHat/Fedora's entire philosophy towards package
upgrades.
