Thanks all...

Found httpd-devel.... something on the media and installed it.
Found apxs in /usr/sbin so added that to the configure line and A
./configure, make clean, make install and install later apache was able
to find the mod_dav_svn.so file I needed. Then after futzing with the
httpd.conf file for a bit (was getting the 405 method not allowed error
-- turned out not to be permissions but the httpd.conf configuration
SVNPath never did work for me... went with SVNParentPath and it worked)
and I now have a working SVN repository and apache server... yeah!

Now anyone know how to work this thing (hehe)

kk... that then begs the next question? Can someone point me to the
apache2-devel download? I looked at the obvious location (apache.org)
but couldn't find it... "locate apxs" on my box returned nothing but
some html manual pages in /var/www/html/programs/

FWIW, if Fedora Core 2 comes with Subversion installed, does Apache come
configured with mod_dav_svn? If so maybe I'll punt and reinstall
again...

Thanks all

Short answer:

The path to apxs or apxs2. For example, it's /usr/sbin/apxs2 on SuSE
once you've installed apache2-devel.
