Hi,

Subversion plans to support lock-modify-unlock in version 1.1 -- at least that's my understanding. Why you'd want it? For binary files, primarily. And a large part of the world lives exclusively inside binary files, MS-Office documents or images for instance.

And if you don't want to wait until 1.1 or use rcs, then there's CVS which has support for locking if so configured.

regards,

Well, there's always the old standbys, rcs or sccs.

Can I ask why you feel you need lock-modify-unlock? The
modify-merge-commit model, as used in CVS, is extremely popular in the
free software world, and always worked well for me.
