Don't know about "well-known", but they certainly are companies.

I used to work at cryptomathic, and help drive their transition from CVS
to SVN, and i've done the same when i changed to work for Kamstrup.

Both shops are very happy with the change (the occasional "it's not CVS"
grumble has been heard, but even the hard CVS-fetichists have slow come
round to liking it).

I find one point in particular to be of interest to companies using
source-control, and that's centralization. Like it or not, when things
are centralized, you have a "reference" on what's the current version of
stuff, and SVN gives you that by having a centralized repo.

I have used arch and monotone for other rev-control purposes more
loosely connected, but nothing beats a centralized repo for having full
beaurocratic control of what's made in the company... (It's also a good
way to increase chances of there being some proper backups somewhere).
