Oh, it's common practice, but not typically by choice. :-)

I can't speak about the RPMs -- never used a Subversion or Apache RPM
in my life. But both Subversion and Apache HTTP Server should be
using whatever BDB apr-util uses. Otherwise, madness ensues.
