automatic removal of unused db logs???

I was under the impression that subversion had the capability to
automatically remove unused db logs. But I notice that this isn't happening
on our server( svn 1.0.1 on rh 9 ). What triggers this removal? Or is it
somthing I need to add to our backup scripts?
