No, I don't agree with that, because it _is_ possible. It's just not easy and
there isn't an API to do it automatically; it requires reading the logs to
figure out what are the appropriate nodes.

However, with good repository design, it isn't even necessary to do any research
to determine which nodes to use. That doesn't help you, since you want to write
a generic tool that works everywhere. The limitation you perceive doesn't
affect the repositories I have created (or mirrored) because they were set up
with a design which specifically deals with it.
